The pause
There’s rain outside the window
But the sun is shining high
The rain’s falling with a piercing sound
Falling with the sound of goodbye
Give me strength and give me peace
Give me the will and eyes to see
To see that there’s more joy on the other side
To see that this pause is only a glimpse of time
I’m filling my time by burning bridges
With each flame thinking about the loss
If the bridge suddenly becomes ash
How we will be able to cross
The flames are high, the flames are tall
The flames cause my bridges to fall
In faith I know that all will work out rather than be lost
In faith I know I will rebuild these bridges during the pause
Had this in AP Lit yesterday, love it
After Us by Connie Wanek
I don’t know if we’re in the beginningor in the final stage.
— Tomas Tranströmer
Rain is falling through the roof.
And all that prospered under the sun,
the books that opened in the morning
and closed at night, and all day
turned their pages to the light;
the sketches of boats and strong forearms
and clever faces, and of fields
and barns, and of a bowl of eggs,
and lying across the piano
the silver stick of a flute; everything
invented and imagined,
everything whispered and sung,
all silenced by cold rain.
The sky is the color of gravestones.
The rain tastes like salt, and rises
in the streets like a ruinous tide.
We spoke of millions, of billions of years.
We talked and talked.
Then a drop of rain fell
into the sound hole of the guitar, another
onto the unmade bed. And after us,
the rain will cease or it will go on falling,
even upon itself.
Bored with my life, these are words
Today is not a day for sunshine
Today is a day for rain
Stormy skies and stormy nights
Have made this day insane
The wind will carry the sound of my voice
But it will never reach your ears
The skies will come down between us
Your words will carry my deepest fears
Alas, a smile to change it all
A sparkle in the eye to turn the tide
A whispered secret to tell you it all
A glint of sunshine to take us on a ride
When I fall behind
A stroke of your hand Causes my problems to cease A stroke of my hand Brings me down to my knees A blanket of Your love Warms my spirits in the cold A blanket of my own thread Grasps my lungs and continues to hold
Overwhelmed by the life before me Who I am to lead this? The answer is almost immediate I am not.
Through perseverance I will find strength But I can’t even find the path When my pace finally slows behind I will finally start leading
I weep because the desires of my heart are of this world Yet You are still my ultimate desire Why does it seem different? What has so abruptly changed?
When I fall behind and start leading The desires of my heart will be fulfilled But first I must let go, Lord, show me the way
I’m living - Reply?
Walk this path
At a pace like my own but not quite
Climb this mountain
With a new harness this time
A could for the sky
A tear for the night
The pillows are made of clouds
But the clouds are in the sky
Write a letter on wadded paper
Retrieved from a bin
Scratch out a name and replace it
And of the letter is sent
Only to not be received
But returned to me
I will law on my pillows
And think how it could be
Take my serving
Of the life that I’ve been given
Wear these scars
Of the situation I’m living in
A smile for the sun
But it is not the day
The sun rays are somewhere in the world
But tonight the skies are gray
The Earth revolves around
And eventually it’ll all be okay
The sun will shine again
When we spin back to today
Eh?
A hopeful wish Is laid to rest A new beginning Proves it’s best
Taking you for you And no other reason Joy fills my world Lust is proven treason
In the darkest days I’ll see you in the sky The clouds will tumble away There will be no more night
And if He chooses another I will not forget the joy He who loved and died for me Will be praised with my voice
If it is to be He will whisper My Son, it is done I’ll sing my Savior is great And we will praise the One
Where do we go?
Building my walls up,
You will break them down
For it is your foundation
That I’m in need of now
So consume me, Father
Engulf me in a flame
Let all the sins you took on
Leave me being without blame
Where, where do we look to,
When all paths have been so wrong?
Take my hand now Father,
Lead me on a journey home
Let Your blood now reign
Let in reign in me
For it is your salvation,
That my soul truly needs
Where, where do we look to,
When all paths have been so wrong?
Take my hand now Father,
Lead me on a journey home
Father, come and hear my cry
Be my love, be my wine, be my answer to this life
Father, bring me back, I’m lost
Forgive my past, cleansed at last; paid for on the cross
A Symphony in the Wind
A child swinging
A heart beating
A symphony in the wind
A mother crying
A father dying
A symphony in the wind
Laughs and shrieks
From toddlers at play
An early rooster
Bringing us the day
A symphony in the wind
A couple fighting
A daughter lying
A symphony in the wind
A total disaster
Some joyful laughter
A symphony in the wind
A symphony in the wind
Yells and screams
From the ones in need
A chanting team
Ready to succeed
A symphony in the wind
Your walls are built
So you can’t feel the breeze
For as long as they remain
How will you live at ease?
A symphony in the wind
Your walls remain
So the breeze can’t pass you by
But until you tear them down
How can you live your life?
A symphony in the wind
Time for Pride
It’s time for pride
Push me aside
Take the reins
And bring me to life
Let me be the puppet
You the Master
Take me life
Away from disaster
The time has come for pride
I’ll make You proud
Use my body
Use my tongue
Let Your breath
Fill my lungs
Take my soul
Hold me tight
What once was dark
Is now Your light
The time has come for pride
I’ll make You proud
Father,
Reach to me
Hand in hand
You set me free
Love me like Your own
I am Yours forever
I can do it all
As long as we’re together
The time has come for pride
I’ll make You proud
